Start a Visual Journal 5 STEPS

Journaling can be easy and fun if you silence your inner critic and just play. I find half the battle is in starting and after many journals and altered books I have a quick system of getting them started.
First choose an appropriate journal or book for you. I usually pick a Mixed MEdia blank journal with heavy paper that can take wet medias like paints especially watercolor and acrylic mediums.

I love lots of texture!
#1 Paint the whole thing in one or two colors. This could take several days. The quickest options are sprays; either Watercolor or Spray paints. Open the journal or book until the covers meet. Spray away...several times. If you don't have sprays use brushes and paint every page. You can paint it smooth or with texture.
#2 Pick a stencil and a different color and stencil every 3rd page with paint...spray paint works quickly for this

#3 Pick 2 stamps repeatedly stamp these throughout the journal . I use at least one number and some type of design image on almost every page.

#4 Draw something on every 10 pages. It can be something as simple as a circle or Zentangle. I draw faces. If you feel like you cannot draw...... trace or stamp something big!#5 Collage . Glue in anything that appeals to you. Paint a little over the edges. These 5 ideas will get you started. After a page is started it is easier to keep adding bits and pieces.
Above all HAVE FUN!
